For anyone looking to participate in a fun, active manner to support scholarships for the hospitality industry, look no more. The Nevada Hotel and Lodging Foundation committees support the organization in creative and productive efforts.
The Nevada Hotel and Lodging Foundation (NHLF) was created a couple of years ago to provide academic and enrichment scholarships for members of the Nevada Hotel and Lodging Association and their immediate families. Aligned closely with NHLA, the foundation works with statewide colleges and universities as well as entities that offer diplomas and certification courses that relate to the industry or general leadership development.
In addition to our founding trustees, we have a board of directors and four committees with chairs or co-chairs leading the activities of each group.
The fundraising committee has one of the biggest responsibilities of anyone in the organization-raise money for the scholarship fund. It is led by Ernest Stovall and Megan Archambeault, both holding management positions for MGM properties.
Another very active committee is the events and food and beverage committee. Debbie Ngai, Director of Catering with the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas, leads the way with this important committee. Debbie has created and coordinated most of the activities involved with NHLF.
John Carpenter, Glassbox Group, oversees communication projects for NHLF. John has an extensive background in public relations and shares his guidance and ideas for the growth and success of the foundation.
Dr. Toni Repetti, Associate Professor, William F. Harrah College of Hospitality, leads the education and mentorship committee. Toni has been instrumental in helping to design the process for fair and consistent evaluation of scholarship applications as well as working with Chris Breed, VP Resort Operations with Soleil Management and Jaime Miranda, VP Hotel Operations with Venetian/Palazzo, in creating a dynamic and beneficial mentor program. A scholarship recipient will benefit from having an industry mentor involved throughout the program.
